Inzko: Political bickering among parties must stop

The time has come for those parties that received the support of the electorate to focus on governing Bosnia and Herzegovina and put political bickering behind them, High Representative Valentin Inzko told Slovak Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajčák during a meeting in Bratislava today.

“As a result of the current political stalemate, BiH lags behind other countries in the region in the processes of EU and NATO integration,” Inzko said. “The international community expects to see the country’s governing institutions doing their job. Progress on the Euro-Atlantic path is possible with political will. Other countries in the region have proven this.”

Speaking of Mostar, the High Representative regretted that local elections could not be held in the city and stressed that the Constitutional Court ruling must be implemented. “Failure is not an option and the solution must come from the political parties themselves,” Inzko warned.

Inzko thanked Lajčák for his country’s support for EUFOR and its executive mandate, and in particular for Slovakia’s continued contribution of troops to the mission.

During his visit to Bratislava, the High Representative also met with the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Defense and senior officials in the Office of the President of Slovakia.
