Inzko: BiH Authorities Must Help Staffing of BiH Prosecutor’s Office

The High Representative and the EU Special Representative, Valentin Inzko, today visited the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina and met with Chief Prosecutor Milorad Barašin.

The HR/EUSR expressed his full support for the work of the Prosecutor’s Office and said the International Community stands ready to provide further assistance for the work and development of this institution.

The HR/EUSR said he supports the position of the Chief Prosecutor that the competent judicial institutions, together with the BiH Council of Ministers, which decide budget allocations, ensure that the necessary conditions exist so that the State Prosecutor’s Office can hire an adequate number of local prosecutors who will ensure the continuity of the work of this institution.

“The international community will continue to provide assistance through financing and expertise and thus continue to support the Court and Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, among other things by reinforcing the existing international advisory presence in the Special department for organized crime,” the HR/EUSR said.

He reiterated the position of the International Community that it is necessary for the judicial authorities of BiH to take full responsibility for the work of the judiciary. The rule of law remains the key criterion for the EU integration process. BiH must reinforce efforts in the area of judicial reform as well as combating organized crime and corruption.
