Incorrect SRNA report on Arizona

SRNA, in its report on Brcko, dated 4 January 2001, claims that, according to a plan brought by the Brcko District Government Department for Urbanism, the Arizona Market will not be moved, but rather regulated at its present location by June 2001. SRNA further states that the plan is a part of an order issued by Supervisor of Brcko, Gary Matthews and the decision by the Brcko District Mayor Sinisa Kisic.

The SRNA report is entirely erroneous. As it is well known, the International Community press release of 26 October 2000 says that “the Brcko District and the Supervisor of Brcko will initiate and carry out a plan for the phased relocation of the main market area to an alternative site which will be prepared with the necessary facilities and safety features by June 2001.”

Furthermore, the Supervisory Order on the Arizona Market of 16 November 2000 highlights the same: “The Mayor of the Brcko District shall establish a Task Force from members of the Brcko District Government and Police to develop, subject to my final approval, a comprehensive plan for the regularization of trade and relocation of the Arizona Market.” This planning is now under way and, as clearly stated, the present main market area of the Arizona will be moved.
