HR/EUSR Welcomes SAA Adoption in BiH House of Representatives

High Representative and EU Special Representative Miroslav Lajčák today welcomed the BiH House of Representative’s approval for ratification of the Stabilization and Accession Agreement with the European Union, and urged the House of Peoples and Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina to finalise the ratification process as soon as possible. “Closer ties and eventual membership in the European Union is a key strategic goal for Bosnia and Herzegovina. Integrating BiH into Euro-Atlantic structures provides stability, prosperity and guarantees of security for all citizens.”

The High Representative and EU Special Representative also called on BiH’s ruling parties and their leaders to focus their priorities on the European agenda. “Spending efforts on the European agenda means putting citizens’ concerns first. The local elections are over, and so should be any futile and inflammatory rhetoric from politicians. The European integration process is the one key objective that BiH’s politicians should now have in sight. Any other concerns, which divert attention from the real challenges ahead of the country, show a genuine lack of understanding of the importance and necessity of EU integration for BiH and all its citizens”, Lajčák said.
