HR/EUSR Inzko Welcomes Continuing Success of BiH Central Bank

The High Representative and EU Special Representative, Valentin Inzko, met the Governor of the BiH Central Bank, Kemal Kozarić, in Sarajevo today.

The HR/EUSR commended the Central Bank Governor for the Bank’s timely and effective reactions that have maintained confidence in the BiH banking sector and protected the country’s fiscal stability.

“The efficiency, professionalism and public responsibility displayed by the Central Bank sets an example to other institutions in BiH,” the HR/EUSR said.

One of the main reasons behind the Bank’s ability to act quickly and effectively has been its independence from political influence; this must continue to be upheld.”

During the meeting the HR/EUSR underlined the upcoming appointment of the Central Bank’s Governing Board in August. “The smooth functioning of the Central Bank is key to continuing financial stability in BiH and the stability of the Konvertiblna Marka; this stability must not be brought into question,” he said.

“I expect the BiH Presidency, as the authority that appoints the Governing Board, to ensure that the appointment process is well managed and that it maintains the independence of this key Dayton institution,” concluded the HR/EUSR.
