HR/EUSR Inzko Meets Turkish Foreign Minister Davutoğlu

High Representative and EU Special Representative, Valentin Inzko, today met in Sarajevo with Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmet Davutoğlu to discuss the political situation in BiH.

“BiH is in a deep political crisis where political tensions must be reduced by increasing political dialogue and urgently forming a new government. Failure to do so will result in serious consequences for the country and its citizens: no progress towards the EU and NATO, and of course no progress to tackle the serious economic and social problems gripping the country” said Inzko.

Accelerated reform steps as well as constitutional reform are required for the country to be self-sustainable and functional.  Both agreed that BiH politicians must finally show willingness to reach healthy compromises to the benefit of the State and all its citizens. It is just such an approach that will guarantee lasting stability and take the country into the EU and NATO. Until then, OHR is still needed.

Minister Davutoğlu also expressed his trust in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s politicians and non-political actors to work more effectively in the interests of their country and citizens in the weeks and months that lie ahead.

HR/EUSR Inzko thanked Minister Davutoğlu for Turkey’s ongoing contribution to the work of the OHR and overall peace implementation process in BiH, as well as highlighting Turkey’s indispensable role in this process.
