HR/EUSR Inzko meets British Foreign Secretary William Hague

High Representative and EU Special Representative (HR/EUSR) Valentin Inzko discussed the current political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina with British Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, William Hague, in London today. Ahead of the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting taking place in Brussels on 21 February HR/EUSR Inzko outlined the scant progress in forming governments after the elections and the detrimental consequences this has for BH citizens.

HR/EUSR Inzko emphasized the need for BiH politicians to put the interests of citizens first. “Political leaders must finally take over responsibility for the state and unblock coalition building”, HR/EUSR Inzko said. “New governments need to focus on Euro-Atlantic integration right from the start.”

HR/EUSR Inzko commended the important role of Great Britain in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region, including its role on the OHR’s Peace Implementation Council Steering Board. He welcomed the Foreign Secretary’s support to his efforts to ensure full respect for the Dayton Peace Agreement and to deliver on the 5+2 agenda for OHR’s transition.
