HR Meets with BiH Presidency Member Izetbegovic

“Bosnia and Herzegovina’s political leaders need to act now to end the country’s current downward trajectory,” said High Representative Valentin Inzko when he met BiH Presidency Member Bakir Izetbegovic in Sarajevo today.

The High Representative set out the results of this week’s meeting of the Peace Implementation Council Steering Board.

The High Representative underlined the international community’s expectation that political leaders will renew their efforts to appoint a new Council of Ministers and adopt a global fiscal framework and a state budget that will ensure the full functioning of the state-level institutions.

The High Representative and Presidency Member Izetbegovic also discussed implementation of the BiH Constitutional Court’s ruling on the electoral system for Mostar.

Noting that successive reports by international actors have highlighted the negative political situation and its influence on the economy, the High Representative underlined that none of the problems Bosnia and Herzegovina faces today are insurmountable. “However, political leaders need to put aside divisive rhetoric, find compromises, and take responsibility for enacting the reforms needed to bring the country closer to the EU and NATO,” the High Representative said.
