HR Inzko meets Czech Foreign Minister Zaorálek

High Representative Valentin Inzko and Deputy Principal High Representative Bruce Berton met today in Sarajevo with a delegation of the Czech Republic, led by Foreign Affairs Minister Lubomír Zaorálek.

The discussion focused on the most recent political developments in the country, in particular the obligation of the authorities in BiH to fully respect the Peace Agreement, as well as the new phase in BiH’s efforts to join the European Union through the recently signed reform agenda.

The High Representative informed the Czech delegation in detail about recent activities by the authorities of Republika Srpska toward organizing a referendum on the state judicial institutions which is in direct violation of the Dayton Peace Agreement. He emphasized that this initiative runs the risk of taking the country backwards and that it must be put aside so that the country’s leaders can focus on real reforms and the real-life needs of the citizens.

High Representative Inzko expressed the hope that the Reform agenda, which he wholeheartedly supports, will provide a much needed incentive to implement long overdue reforms. “Elected leaders have a unique opportunity to choose the future by making the most of the European Union initiative and implementing the reform agenda,” he said.

He praised the Czech Republic for its continued support to Bosnia and Herzegovina on its Euro-Atlantic path and its support for the international community’s efforts aimed at full implementation of the Dayton Peace Agreement. At the meeting, Czech Foreign Minister Zaorálek expressed its support to the OHR’s activities.
