HR Inzko Meets Bundestag Members

Two years after general elections, Bosnia and Herzegovina does not have fully functional governments in place that are committed and able to deliver concrete results in the Euro-Atlantic integration process, the High Representative said during meetings with MPs from across the German political spectre. The immediate priorities are well-known: implementing the ruling of the European Court of Human Rights in the Sejdic-Finci case, resolving the issue of state and military property and tackling unemployment and the poverty large parts of the population are subject to.

“Like in Germany after the Second World War, the international community has made a huge security and financial investment over many decades in Bosnia and Herzegovina to deliver peace and security and a reintegration of the country”, the High Representative said. “We must not allow this effort to be wasted. Effective executive civilian and military mandates therefore remain essential until Bosnia and Herzegovina is securely and irreversibly on the path of EU membership. The sooner political leaders take the lead in delivering the results that take us to this point the better.

Inzko also stressed that OHR and the EU Delegation cooperate very closely and effectively on the ground and that the mandates of the High Representative and EU Special Representative complement each other.
