High Representative Welcomes Launch of PBS and Federation Radio

The High Representative, Wolfgang Petritsch, today welcomed the launch of the new PBS and Federation Radio services. The new services are a critical step in the restructuring of the public broadcasting system in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and represent a positive step towards the development of a healthy civil society and a move towards the European family of nations.

In his address at the official opening of the stations, the High Representative thanked the Swiss and German Governments for their support and the European Commission for providing the much needed funding which brought the project to fruition. He gave special thanks to the staff OSCE and Radio FERN, whose hard work and commitment to this project was invaluable.

The High Representative stressed that the creation of these new services was largely due to the dedication and work of the Governing bodies of PBS, Federation RTV and RT RS, and broadcasters from across Bosnia and Herzegovina, with support from the Broadcasting Agent and his team. This was a clear demonstration of the concept of ownership. The staff of both stations in Sarajevo, Banja Luka, Mostar and across Bosnia and Herzegovina were congratulated, and offered the full support of the High Representative.
