The High Representative, Wolfgang Petritsch, met today in Sarajevo with the presidents of Circle 99, the Council of Bosniak Intellectuals, the Croatian National Council and the Serb Civic Council to exchange views on a number of issues.

The High Representative, Prof. Vlatko Dolocek, Prof. Atif Purivatra, Prof. Ivo Komsic and Prof. Mirko Pejanovic discussed the draft election law, the returns process, the entry of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the Council of Europe and the importance of equality for all BiH Citizens and constituent peoples under the Constitution of BiH.

The presidents of these four groups of intellectuals expressed their support for the actions of the High Representative noting in particular the High Representative’s property law decisions, the strengthening of the common institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the removal of twenty-two local officials who had obstructed the implementation of the GFAP.

The High Representative stressed that professors and intellectuals are role models in modern society and upheld the importance of non-governmental organisations such as these. All agreed that it is these people who must set an example if Bosnia and Herzegovina is to cease division based on ethnicity and fulfill it’s potential.
