The High Representative, Paddy Ashdown, congratulates SFOR, who today arrested Darko Mrda, indicted for war crimes by the ICTY. The High Representative welcomes this very positive move, that demonstrates an important commitment to the rule of law, an essential precondition for a lasting peace in southeastern Europe. For too long, these people have hidden their individual crimes, holding the people hostage for their own deeds. Only by bringing the guilty to justice, Bosnia and Herzegovina will move further on the road to reconciliation. However, it is still regrettable that SFOR has to carry out arrests, when it is the prime responsibility of the local police to bring the people indicted before the ICTY to justice.
