High Representative Appoints New Brcko District Supervisor

The High Representative, Paddy Ashdown, on Friday appointed Susan R. Johnson as Brcko District Supervisor and Deputy High Representative.

A senior U.S. diplomat, Supervisor Johnson has broad experience inside and outside government, as well as extensive knowledge of transition issues.

During her work for the U.S. State Department, Supervisor Johnson served in senior positions in the U.S. Embassies in Romania, Russia, Pakistan, and Mauritius, and the U.S. Mission to the UN in New York.  She has also served as Special Assistant to the Under Secretary for Political Affairs for the Near East and South Asia and as Senior Advisor in the Office of the Secretary for Resources, Planning and Policy.   In addition, Supervisor Johnson has served as Foreign Policy Advisor to the U.S. Senate and has been a Senior Program Officer for Asia and the Islamic World at the National Endowment for Democracy.

Before taking up her appointment as Brcko District Supervisor, Ms. Johnson held the position of Senior Advisor to the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Interim Director for Civil Affairs in the Coalition Provisional Authority in Baghdad.

The High Representative expresses his gratitude to Mr. Gerhard Sontheim, who has played an invaluable and successful role as Acting Supervisor of the Brcko District for the past three and a half months.
