Chair of BiH Council Of Ministers Dr. Dragan Mikerevic, Minister of Treasury Dr. Ante Domazet, and Principal Deputy High Representative Ambassador Donald Hays visited Brcko District today for a series of meetings with Brcko District officials and the Supervisor. The discussions covered numerous topics of mutual interest, including the integration of Brcko District into BiH, financial and economic issues, and judicial reforms. Dr. Mikerevic addressed the Brcko District Assembly and he, Dr. Domazet and Amb. Hays toured the new Brcko District Court Complex.
Dr. Mikerevic, stressing the need for greater collaboration between the State and the District, announced the CoM was forming a working group to address issues relating to the Brcko District and harmonize Entity and District efforts to realize a single economic space in BiH.
“Brcko District is neither a canton nor an entity and only as a part of Bosnia and Hercegovina it can fulfill its own but also the interests of Bosnia and Hercegovina by harmonizing the legal and economic system”, said Mikerevic.
“Brcko District is an integral part of the State of BiH. It already serves as a model for the rest of the country with its judicial and educational reforms. It is time, now, for the Entities and the District to put their differences, often over economic issues, behind them and synchronize their efforts to achieve economic and social progress,” said Ambassador Hays. “Naturally, both BiH and Brcko District have a common goal and responsibilities, promoting common economic space and the promoting of social and legal rights of citizens. That is why we are here today – to encourage an active and fruitful dialogue between the State and the District. ”
