Brcko District Interim Government Approaches Finishing Line

As the last 90 days of the Brcko District Interim Government’s mandate have begun, Brcko Supervisor Susan R. Johnson met with the Brcko District Mayor and Brcko District Government Heads of Department this morning in order to review with them how best to use the remainder of the mandate in the interests of all Brcko District residents.

The consultations resulted in harmonization of   work plans, and three top priority projects were set for each department. Supervisor Johnson encouraged the Government Heads of Department to move forward energetically, by joint effort, with the projects arising from the April 29 Supervisory Order.

Supervisor Johnson highlighted some of the main areas of concern to both the Supervisor and the District citizens, and which are confirmed by the high number of citizens’ complaints that the Supervisor’s Office receives and by the comments received by the Supervisor in her contacts with people all over the Brcko District.  Some practices — those connected with the employment process in the District Administration have been singled out — must be changed, and this Government has 90 days to set new standards.

“When I spoke in the Dom Kulture shortly after my arrival six months ago I pointed out that a great deal had been achieved, but a great deal still remained to be done.  I would like to add to that statement today – yes, a lot has been achieved and I know that many of public employees have contributed a great deal to the success of the District – however, too much still remains to be done and there is not much time at our disposal.”

“I recognize that it’s a political year and that there are a series of pressures on Heads of Department that ordinarily might not exist.  However, this is not an excuse to stop or slow down work or to use offices and government resources for political purposes,” the Supervisor said.
