The Senior Deputy High Representative Martin Ney met today with RS Minister of Education Milovan Pecelj at OHR . Discussion focused on the steps which must be taken by the RS Government in order to implement the High Representative’s Decision of 30 June 2004 removing Radomir Lukic from public office. The High Representative issued this Decisiopn due to Mr Lukic’s role in obstructing BiH’s cooperation with the ICTY.

Ambassador Ney made clear in the strongest terms to Minister Pecelj that the RS Government, and Minister Pecelj himself as the relevant line minister, are responsible for implementing the High Representative’s Decision.

Ambassador Ney reminded Minister Pecelj that the RS Government has committed itself to replace the RS Government-appointed members of the East Sarajevo law faculty board. Ambassador Ney, had requested Minister Pecelj to provide written evidence that all salary payments to Mr Lukic have been terminated; and he is to declare in East Sarajevo University and publicly that Mr Lukic is no longer legally teaching at the University and that , as a consequence , any exams marked by him are null and void.

“None of this has yet happened – failure by the RS Government and Minister Pecelj to take action will be viewed as a defiance of the DPA, which cannot be tolerated and would have consequences,” Ambassador Ney stated.
