High Representative Christian Schwarz-Schilling was awarded the Manfred Wörner medal today inBerlin.

This award, which is given for outstanding contribution to European security once a year by the German Defence Ministry, is named after the late NATO Secretary General who, as Germany’s Defence Minister, was also a colleague of Dr Schwarz-Schilling in the German government.

Since one of Manfred Wörner’s greatest achievements was the creation of NATO’s Partnership-for-Peace, Dr Schwarz-Schilling took the opportunity presented by the awards ceremony to express his hope that Bosnia and Herzegovina would soon be invited to join the programme.

Earlier, the High Representative met with Germany ’s State Secretary, Reinhard Silberberg, and senior officials in the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs to discuss the progress Bosnia and Herzegovina has made in recent months. These meetings focused on police reform and the restructuring of the public broadcasting service, the key reforms required for completion of Bosnia and Herzegovina ’s Stabilisation and Association Agreement.
