News Summary

BiH Council of Ministers meets with Petritsch

High Representative Wolfgang Petritsch held his first meeting with members of the BiH Council of Ministers in Sarajevo on Monday. Petritsch announced that the work of joint institutions would be intensified in order to transform BiH into a modern European state. They discussed economic reform, privatization and implementation of Annex 7 of the Dayton Agreement. According to Co-chairman Svetozar Mihajlovic, Petritsch is decisive to continue the work of Carlos Westendorp, so that BiH can join Europe as a modern European state. Co-chairman Haris Silajdzic conditions his remaining in the Ministry on complete implementation of Annex 7 and points to the High Representative’s position that declarative implementation of this annex would not be tolerated. Silajdzic requested that the Ministry engage in resolving problems of the Brcko District. Deputy Chairman Neven Tomic pointed out the necessity of defining a program for joint institutions, meaning the BiH Presidency, Council of Ministers and BiH Parliament, in order to avoid frequent clashes of authority.
