High Representative Inzko Briefed the Head of the Western Balkans Department at the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office Owen Jenkins

High Representative Valentin Inzko met yesterday in Sarajevo with the Head of the Western Balkans and Enlargement Department of the UK Foreign Commonwealth Office Owen Jenkins.

High Representative Inzko briefed Mr. Jenkins on recent events in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the challenges the country is facing. He reiterated that the international community has full understanding for the frustration and grievances expressed by demonstrators throughout the country in the past days. “The recent protests should urgently lead to a constructive dialogue between the authorities and the citizens with the aim of addressing the concrete problems citizens face and thus also helping the country move forward on the Euro-Atlantic agenda.”

High Representative Inzko also underlined that relevant authorities and other leaders now need to work together to overcome the current problems. The recent protests must not be politically misused to increase ethnic divisions inside the country. Corruption, high unemployment and lack of economic opportunity are common to all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
