High Representative visits ITA Regional Center in Mostar

High Representative Valentin Inzko today visited the BiH Indirect Taxation Authority (ITA)’s Regional Center in Mostar with ITA Director Miro Dzakula. The High Representative emphasized the importance and success of the country’s indirect tax system for the overall macroeconomic stability and fiscal sustainability in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The indirect tax system – with the ITA as its central pillar – directly benefits all levels of government in BiH without exception. In the period between 2005, when the ITA commenced its work, and 2013, the ITA collected over 46 billion KM.

“This is an impressive result. There can be no doubt whatsoever that the Indirect Tax System and the ITA represent one of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s greatest achievements of recent years. I am proud of the role the OHR has played in the past to establish the ITA,” the High Representative said.

“Rather than questioning the ITA, politicians would be far better placed to try to answer the question that so many of the citizens of this country are asking: how has our money been spent by the elected authorities? How has this money, collected from the citizens and businesses in this country, been used to create jobs, tackle rampant corruption and improve key services such as health and education?”, the High Representative added.
