Sarajevo – The Ambassador of Qatar handed the Letter of Engagement to the BiH President Izetbegovic.

Sarajevo Presidency member Zubak received a visit of the HR Senior Deputy Ambassador Schumacher. The items on the agenda were the global situation in BiH, co-operation between BiH and the BiH Federation, and ways for achieving progress in the DPA implementation before the forthcoming conference in Bonn.

Zubak also met US Ambassador Kauzlarich, discussing the matter of establishment and functioning of the joint institutions in BiH, the forthcoming elections in RS, and the position of Croat people in BiH.

Sarajevo – UK ‘Lloyd’s Register’ awarded Sarajevan ‘Energoinvest’ company with the Certificate of Quality for ISO 9002 standards. The Certificate was given to ‘Energoinvest’ research team, for the progress achieved on the field of developing the parts for long-distance power lines. Federal Prime-Minister Bicakcic said that this Certificate represents not only the stimulus for striding forward, but also a great reward, since this is the first award of this kind in Bosnia ever. Izetbegovic also sent his congratulations to the ‘Energoinvest’ company.

  • BiH Federal Minister of Energy Prof. Dr. Kapetanovic received a visit of ‘Lloyd’s Register’ representatives Katic, on the occasion of awarding ‘Energoinvest’. Kapetanovic said that the rest of ‘Energoinvest’ dept’s and other companies will also show similar results very soon, and receive similar certificates. 2’30” Sarajevo – (BiH TV news comment) Judging today’s signed agreements with economists of friendly countries, Bosnia will surely not remain without international aid for the reconstruction. After his return from Turkey and Kuwait, CoM Co-chairman Silajdzic said that the engagement of Kuwait’s Investment Agency in Zenica steel-mill was discussed, as well as the other forms of financial aid to BiH.

Sarajevo – Federal Prime-Minister Bicakcic, and the Kuwait Economic Development Directorate deputy Manager Al Subai signed the agreement on loan for the project of urgent water supplies, and sanitation maintenance. The signed agreement equals to the amount of $16 million, and this revenues will be used for the reconstruction of water supply system in Sarajevo, Cazin and Srebrenik.

Konjic – UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Ogata visited Konjic today. Ogata was interested about the return of national minorities to the city. Ogata also visited two returnee families, one Serb and one Croat discussing with them their current dwelling conditions. Konjic Municipality President said that Konjic is open for all who wish to return, but that the big problem represents the lack of residential space, and that municipality is making huge efforts in order to realise the project of refugee return. Ogata stressed that it is wonderful to see that with the commitment and co-operation with municipal authorities, the open city initiative may bring some fruits.

Travnik – German Special Envoy Schlee visited Travnik today, discussing the matter of refugee return with the highest middle Bosnian Canton authorities. Schlee said that there is about 250.000 refugees in Germany, out of which about 20.000 are from Middle Bosnian canton. Schlee said that the German Government has a great wish to help in the process of return, in accordance with its possibilities. The deadline for the return was not determined. During 1997, about 90.000 people voluntarily returned from Germany, while 740 were deported.

Zenica – The subject of permanent care for orphans was discussed at today’s meeting of Federal and all canton ministries in charge. The figure of 2.600 children without parental care demands an urgent action. The current situation regarding this matter is that the Ministry is expecting revenues approved at the Donors conference.

Banja Luka – OSCE Ambassador Frowick appealed for peaceful elections in RS on Saturday and Sunday. Frowick also announced his visit to Milosevic tomorrow, in order to continue the consultations about the elections.
