Sarajevo / Banja Luka / Mostar
Atmosphere in Sarajevo, Banja Luka and Mostar during the New Year Eve was presented. Fireworks were organised in all three towns. For the first time, citizens of Sarajevo celebrated coming of the New Year on the streets of the town in a large number. Popular singers were entertaining citizens in front of the National Theatre building. OBN reporter, Adis Saranovic, produced the report.
This was followed by a report on how Banja Luka celebrated. Several thousand citizens gathered in the center of the town. The report was produced by OBN reporter from Banja Luka, Suzana Vukcevic.
In Mostar, citizens also came out to the streets to celebrate the coming of the New Year. One police officer was hurt by accident. In the Stolac area, a bomb exploded in the house of a Bosniak family. No one was hurt, OBN reporter from the area, Sinisa Jokic, confirmed.
Tuzla
A report on babies born in the night between two millenniums in Tuzla. Five girls and two boys were born. The report was produced by OBN reporter, Sadik Salimovic.
World
Millions of people all around the world celebrated coming of New Year with fireworks and street celebrations. Some two million people gathered at the New York Times Square. People had been gathering from the early morning on Friday. Similar atmosphere was in Paris. Over two million people were on the streets of London. Some 150,000 people listened the New Year greetings of the Pope in Rome. The report was produced by OBN journalist, Damir Kaletovic.
This was followed by a report on current events in Russia and Chechenia. The acting President, Vladimir Putin, visited Chechenia today. The Russian offensive in Chechenia continues. On midnight, attacks on the Chechen capital intensified. Vladimir Putin confirmed that the action in Chechenia would be continued until the victory was achieved. Recently, accusations against the ex Russian President, Boris Yeltsin, and his family for corruption have been heard. Yeltsin was a leader of Russia for eight years. The report on Yeltsin’s unusual mandate was produced by OBN journalist, Mladen Maric.
