There have been reports in some Federation media on 11 and 12 February, 1998, referring to incidents of unrest on February 11 in Brcko town and the surrounding RS territory. These reports allege the burning of Bosniac houses and instances of verbal abuse directed against returnees to Brcko. These reports have been investigated by the Office of the Supervisor, IPTF and SFOR, who have found no evidence of the events described.
It has been confirmed that there was a peaceful demonstration, involving approximately 100 Bosniac citizens in Cerik in the Federation at around 16.30 on February 11, 1998, attended by the local Federation police.
At a time when the Arbitral hearing in Vienna is underway, rumours or misinformation about incidents of violence will serve no constructive purpose and will only cause harm to stability in the area.
