16 June 2004 HR Visits Srebrenica Victims Mass Grave Exhumation The High Representative, Paddy Ashdown, will this afternoon visit an exhumation at what is believed to be a primary mass grave site in Sandici near Bratunac. The site appears to contain the mortal remains of people killed in Srebrenica between 10 and 19 July 1995 and exhumations are being conducted as a result of information received from the RS Government’s Srebrenica Commission by the FBiH Missing Persons Commission. This is the first exhumation to be undertaken as a result of information gathered from RS sources by the Commission, which released the first part of its Report last Friday. This site is one of 11 which had been previously unknown to the FBiH Missing Persons Commission. When the report was released last week the High Representative noted that the final assessment of the Report rests with the BiH Human Rights Commission within the BiH Constitutional Court, and, importantly, that the information that has been provided will need to be examined. The site the High Representative will visit is located on the Konjevic Polje-Bratunac road and is visible from the road itself. Representatives of the media may attend while the High Representative visits but are asked to contact the FBiH Missing Persons Commission should they require more details.
