News Summary

Radisic meets with European Council Envoy Bloetzer

BiH Presidency Member Zivko Radisic met with European Council Envoy Peter Bloetzer in Banja Luka to discuss the current situation in BiH and the RS. Bloetzer stated that BiH could very soon become a member of the Council if it continues fulfilling the conditions set for its membership. He pointed out that significant progress was made in this direction, adding that, although there is still much to do, he views BiH’s future with optimism. As Radisic’s advisor Zeljko Mirjanic stated, Radisic confirmed the BiH position that it should become a member of the European Council, but that the main obstructions are the difficult economic situation and social problems in BiH. Mirjanic added that conditions set by Council commissions should be fulfilled by further implementation of the Dayton Agreement and respect of the BiH Constitution.

SNSD press conference

SNSD Main Board member Stanislav Cadjo stated that the party did not consider participation of the CD Coalition in the RS Government. The Sloga Coalition has yet to take an official position on this issue. The SNSD supports all democratic authorities in Serbia. According to SNSD Vice-president Dobroslav Cuk, the party appealed to Serbian citizens not to tolerate conflicts that the regime could use against its own people. Regarding the border agreement between BiH and Croatia, Cuk said that the SNSD would soon state its position.

Banja Luka Caritas holds press conference

Director of the Banja Luka Caritas Miljenko Anicic stated at a press conference that a group of Banja Luka Croats now living in Plaski, Croatia have come to Banja Luka to gain rights for return of property, pensions, participation in privatization and annul contracts on the exchange of property. Anicic added that 1,275 requests for property return have been filed with RS authorities, but only 15 have been resolved. 1,887 requests have been submitted to International Community representatives, but only 23 have been resolved over two years, which is, according to Anicic, a disastrous result. President of the Croat Association from Plaski Pero Zizak stated that what Croats lost four years ago, when they were evicted from their property, must be acknowledged. Zizak added that 1,406 Serbs returned to Plaski, but cannot enter their houses because refugee Croats, who want to return to their homes, have already settled in them. He also said that they would bring Serbs from Plaski to Banja Luka and try and resolve the issue.

Tihic on income taxes

SDA Vice-president and representative in the RS National Assembly Sulejlman Tihic stated that initiative of five SDA regional boards in the RS for a law on income taxes for people employed in the BiH Federation to finance return to the RS would systematically resolve the problem of their return. According to Tihic, the SDA would try to realize this initiative through representatives in the BiH Federation Parliament.
