News Summary

Gasic reacts to Dodik statement on Kozomara

International RT RS Administrator, Dragan Gasic, reacted to a statement by RS Prime Minister Milorad Dodik on RT RS and its General Director, Andjelko Kozomara. Gasic claims that Dodik’s statement that the RS Government is, according to the law, authorized to appoint the RT RS General Director is untrue. First of all, Dodik, RS Information Minister Rajko Vasic and former RS President Biljana Plavsic signed provisional agreements in February 1998. The RT RS Statute is one part of those provisional agreements. According to the Statute, the RT RS Executive Board is authorized to appoint the General Director. The RS Government adopted the RT RS Statute on 8 April 1998. According to the Statute, the RS National Assembly appoints the Executive Board. The Executive Board then appointed Andjelko Kozomara. On 22 May 1998, the OSCE Provisional Election Commission brought a ruling on the RT RS Statute. According to that ruling, the RT RS Statute has priority over all laws not in accordance with the RT RS statute, which is part of the PEC Rules and Regulations. On 1 September 1999, High Representative Wolfgang Petritsch brought a decision amending all RT RS Laws. The RT RS Statute is upheld by that decision. Gasic does not want to comment on Dodik’s claim concerning Kozomara’s personal political views. Gasic claims that Kozomara’s personal political viewpoint does not have an influence on RT RS programming. Gasic rejected claims that RT RS had been affirming failed Yugoslav policies. RT RS is being monitored, said Gasic. He added that he has met with Dodik on a number of occasions. Dodik had never presented any criticisms to him. Dodik only criticized a talk show on crime and corruption that was broadcast on 30 August 1999. If Kozomara had done all these things of which he is accused, he would have been in violation of the Statute which in turn would have prompted Gasic and the Executive Board to undertake certain measures. Actually, nobody from the Executive Board had ever asked to discuss any of Kozomara’s offenses because he did not make any.
