News Summary

During visit to ICTY, Dodik says international forces should arrest Karadzic and Mladic

During a visit to the ICTY, RS Prime Minister Milorad Dodik stated that Karadzic and Mladic should be arrested by international forces. He said that he discussed strengthening trust and cooperation with ICTY officials. As a good step in that direction, he announced that hearings will be conducted by the ICTY in the RS and that an ICTY office will open in Banja Luka. The RS is planing to draft a law on cooperation with the ICTY. According to Dodik, in order to strengthen the ICTY, it is necessary to strengthen the court’s independence, show that it is not a political court and emphasize individual responsibility for each crime. Dodik stated that the inmates with which he spoke told him that they are ready to take responsibility for their crimes but are afraid of political ramifications.
