News Summary

Dodik meets with Holbrooke

RS Prime Minister Milorad Dodik met with US Ambassador to the UN Richard Holbrooke, newly appointed US Ambassador to BiH Thomas Miller and US General Pit Dayton in Banja Luka on Thursday, after which a press conference was held. Dodik stated that they discussed cooperation. Dodik believes that the return of refugees is a priority. The RS Government to has drawn its attention to the return of refugees in coming period. IC assistance will be focused on events related to Annex 7 of the Dayton Agreement. Holbrooke stated that a new, promising spirit could be felt in the Banski Dvor, a building with a tragic history. The US Administration will support everyone wanting a united and multiethnic society. “There are forces that still do not believe in the Dayton Agreement” Holbrooke stated. “In this area, there are separatists and war criminals. These people are trying to destroy the Dayton Agreement and return the Serb people to the dark ages of six years ago. There are still forces here that openly try to destroy the idea of one single country called BiH.” Holbrooke will report that two political parties, the SDS and the SRS, are in open violation of the Dayton Agreement. Holbrooke expressed his pleasure with 21 November, the date the Dayton Agreement was signed, becoming a BiH state holiday. Regarding corruption in BiH, Holbrooke stated that the US has been supporting the fight against corruption. At the end of September, Dodik will visit Washington D.C.

SPRS Main Board member Radmanovic holds press

SPRS Main Board member Nebojsa Radmanovic held a press conference in Banja Luka on Thursday. “By informing of secret ICTY lists, the BETA news agency wants to destabilize the RS” Radmanovic stated. “Some international organizations and domestic powers want to destabilize the RS.” Commenting CD Coalition requests for participation in the RS Government, Radmanovic stated that the SPRS has been open for talk, but ultimatums were out of question. Radmanovic stated that Banja Luka allotted 49 acres of land to refugees. Commenting on annexes to the Law on SRT, Radmanovic stated that SRT has been under pressure.

Serb Coalition for RS holds press conference

The Serb Coalition for the RS held a press conference in Banja Luka on Thursday and stated that the current RS leadership is responsible for the current situation in the RS, because it has not reacted properly. President of the Serb Coalition for the RS Predrag Lazarevic believes that the current policy initiated the Talic arrest. Lazarevic also believes that RS Defense Minister Manojlo Milovanovic should have given his resignation after the Talic’s arrest. Coalition Vice-president Predrag Radic stated that the fight against crime and corruption has seen no results. Representatives of the Serb Coalition for the RS consider news of ICTY secret list absurd and statements by ICTY Chief Prosecutor Louise Arbour unfounded by law.

Roundtable on Sarajevo Declaration

Deputy High Representative Ralph Johnson and Deputy High Representative Andy Biarpart hosted a roundtable on the Sarajevo Declaration. Twenty-nine representatives of People’s Societies were present at the event. It was pointed out in a press release that Sarajevo must play the lead role in the return of pre-war citizens.
