RS National Assembly convenes on Tuesday; delegates fail to adopt agenda

03:15

The RS National Assembly failed to adopt the agenda for its 14th session

in Banja Luka on Tuesday. At the beginning of the session, the RS Government withdrew 19 proposals, draft laws and other decisions from the Assembly discussion procedure, leaving only the draft laws on labor, employment and labor inspection. RS National Assembly delegates reduced the proposed agenda to 13 points and, although the proposed agenda was harmonized, they did not adopt it. Thirty-six delegates voted for the agenda’s adoption, six against and 25 abstained. RS National Assembly Speaker Petar Djokic said that this was the climax of extremely irresponsible behavior on the part of delegates, who took on great responsibility by not adopting the agenda and, in the end, devaluated the activities of the National Assembly with this action. DNS delegate Dragutin Rodic commented the session’s result, saying that the DNS believed the 14th session should have been used to adopt laws of great importance for privatization, labor relations and the status of the RS population. DSP delegate Nebojsa Radmanovic said the Assembly has practically dissolved itself with this kind of behavior. SDS delegate Dragan Cavic said he is convinced the reasons for holding this session were proposals to include a discussion topic concerning the work of a polling group researching activities in customs and in the strategic commodity reserves sector. Cavic is also surprised that the SRS refused to adopt the agenda on proposal. SRS delegate Milan Lazic said the SRS is not satisfied because the Government withdrew a large number of agenda points. This SRS official also expressed dissatisfaction with the behavior of SDS and SPRS officials due to their refusal to elect a new RS Government at the session before when the SRS initiated this proposal. CD Coalition representative Nedzad Sasivarevic assessed that the session was a farce and accused Djokic of being the most responsible for allowing this to happen. SNSD representative Jovo Radic demands Djokic to come to his senses, but believes it to be a very relative matter when someone and something has the majority. Whether the session will be continued or whether this will be the last gathering of the delegates in this composition remains to be decided at a consultative meeting between Djokic and parliamentary caucuses on 18 October.
