News Summary
Bijeljina Bosniaks ask OHR to stop illegal usurpation of Bosniak property
If the International Community does not prevent implementation of the Bijeljina Municipal Council decision to hand over the land of Bosniak refugees to Serb refugees living in Bijeljina, thousands of Bijeljina Bosniaks will be denied the right to their property. CD Coalition delegates on the Bijeljina Municipal Council asked for help from High Representative Wolfgang Petritsch. CD Coalition delegates want the High Representative to intervene and dismiss local officials involved in this misconduct. According to the disputable decision, 560 plots of Bosniak land would be sequestered in the Bijeljina suburb of Koviljaca alone. “This decision is directly aimed against implementation of peace agreements and refugee returns and we ask that the High Representative stop it, at least until a law on restitution is adopted” Bijeljina Municipal Council Chairman Selim Durakovic stated.

OHR hosts Symposium on Curricula in BiH
The OHR is hosting a two-day Symposium on Curriculum in Sarajevo on Monday and Tuesday. Local and international experts in this field gathered to discuss problems in and possible revisions of school plans and curriculums in BiH education systems. The main objective of the symposium is to find an agreement on revisions of curriculums, but in such a manner that would preserve the identity of all children in BiH, regardless of where they live, the High Representative’s Advisor for Education Claude Kieffer stated. The highlight of the first day of the symposium was presentation of a UNESCO report on education and curriculum in BiH. The expert team from the Heidelberg University that prepared the report found unacceptable aspects in the curriculums of all three peoples. Bosniaks insist on their position as victim of the recent war. Croats obviously ignore the other peoples in BiH and emphasize their love towards the Republic of Croatia. The insolent attitude in the RS is based on a belonging to “the Serb fatherland” leaning on Serbia and refusing to be part of BiH.
