News Summary

Frowick visits Bugojno and meets with Serb returnees

Deputy US Presidential Envoy for BiH Ambassador Robert Frowick visited Bugojno and met with Municipal Head Mustafa Strukar and Serb returnees to the village of Cipuljic on Sunday. He stated that he arrived in Bugojno to personally view the progress of which he was informed. Strukar informed Frowick of the results of Dayton Agreement implementation in this area, citing data that, from the signing of the Dayton Agreement until now, 5,058 people have returned to this municipality, mostly Croats. Frowick stated that information he received from Strukar on Sunday is very encouraging, especially related to return. He added that the US Government strongly supports those who bravely work on strict implementation of the Dayton Agreement. Serb returnee representative Nikola Simic informed Ambassador Frowick of the reconstruction of 35 Serb houses, which is expected to be concluded before the end of the year, and of return plans for the future.

Return of Bosniaks to RS depends on connections with refugees in Diaspora – SDA

The SDA believes that the return of Bosniaks to the RS is one of the main preconditions for the reintegration of BiH, which is why they initiated aid for return to the RS in cooperation with their Diaspora. The party is doing this because the RS Ministry for Refugees is not working towards resolution of this problem. The BiH Federation Ministry for Refugees is not in a position (to help) and state institution for this issue has not yet been established. SDA Vice-president Sulejman Tihic stated that they have gathered approximately 130,000 KM worth of aid to-date, which has been distributed to Bosanski Novi, Kotor Varos and Kopaci.

Representatives of Brcko multiethnic authority on priorities for future

All representatives of the Brcko multiethnic authorities agree that the OHR’s “silent man” International Brcko Supervisor Robert Farrand, performs his responsible job systematically, although some of them believe that this is going very slowly. Deputy Brcko Mayor Ivan Krndelj stated that it is better to be late several months than to bring certain decisions hastily and make mistakes. President of the Brcko Assembly Mirsad Djapo stated that the return of 20 families to Brcko weekly is in accordance with the decision of the Multiethnic Municipal Commission. Brcko Assembly Vice-president Bogdan Savija stated that he expects prosperity in the spring, but that prosperity can only be expected with those who are ready to work on implementation of District laws and tasks.
