Mothers of Srebrenica react to UN report on Srebrenica tragedy
The UN recently published a 155-page report on its view of the tragedy in Srebrenica in 1995, when the town was a safe haven under UN protection. According to information from the Association “Mothers of the Enclaves of Srebrenica and Zepa” 10,701 people were missing after (Srebrenica) fell in the summer of 1995. (Footage shows General Ratko Mladic addressing captured civilians after Srebrenica was overrun by Serb forces) “You are all going to Kladanj, as those before you have gone. Do not worry at all, you are free.” (Footage of skulls and bones of victims found in the woods around Srebrenica) “Their freedom ended up like this” the reported commented. Survivors from Srebrenica, mostly women, have been trying to get the remains of their relatives for the past four years. Over two thousand Srebrenica citizens have applied for emigration from BiH. Chairwoman of the Association “Mothers of the Enclaves of Srebrenica and Zepa” Munira Subasic warns that, if they are not allowed to return to their homes in Eastern Bosnia, all survivors of the Srebrenica tragedy will collectively apply for emigration from Bosnia. Mrs. Subasic said that Ambassador Jacques Klein informed the Association that the UN had recognized partial responsibility for what happened, but she said that it is necessary to name those who are responsible. UN spokesperson Douglas Coffman reaffirmed that the UN considers the Serb forces, namely Karadzic, Mladic, Krstic, and Erdemovic, responsible for the atrocities. Mrs. Subasic announced that the Association “Mothers of the Enclaves of Srebrenica and Zepa” will raise charges against the International Community, the Dutch Battalion based in Srebrenica and the ICRC, which left Srebrenica two months before it fell to the Serb.
