News Summary
Milosevic opponents protest in Kraljevo due to closure of TV Kraljevo
Approximately 10,000 opponents of Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic gathered in Kraljevo to protest against the interruption of the TV Kraljevo program after a shutdown of the station’s main transmitter. TV Kraljevo Editor-in-Chief Ivan Rajevic stated that Kraljevo is the most opposition-oriented city in Serbia, which was proved at the end of 1996 and beginning of 1997, when they fought for the station. One demonstrator stated that communists must leave the scene this year and, regardless of whether they take the equipment or not, they are only making the situation harder for themselves. At each mention of Slobodan Milosevic, Kraljevo citizens shouted “thieves” and “red gang.” (00:41)
