News Summary

HDZ responsible for division of Mostar – ICG

“Five years after the Dayton Agreement, Mostar is still a divided city and the HDZ BiH is the single most responsible entity for this” the International Crisis Group (ICG) concluded in its report ‘Mostar – Chances for Progress’ issued on Wednesday. “The International Community has invested over 200 million Euro in Mostar so far, but its inefficiency is also partly to blame for the such situation” ICG Director in BiH James Lions stated. “The HDZ BiH constantly obstructed all efforts by the IC and the Bosniak side” Lions stated, adding that institutions of the illegal Herceg-Bosna still exist. “If we cannot unite Mostar, we cannot unite the BiH Federation or BiH, which means that, if we do not unite Mostar, the Dayton Agreement will fail.” He suggested that the IC put economic pressure on the HDZ BiH and the illegal “third entity” and force them to unite Mostar. Lions asserted that the Bosniak side can also be held responsible, but in comparison with the HDZ, responsibility is minor.
