News Summary
US intends to send experts to investigate organized crime in BiH
“Hundreds of millions dollars have been stolen in BiH, some of which are presumably from International Community funds” Chairman of the US Congress Committee for International Relations Benjamin Gilman stated. Gilman called for immediate action, backing his claims with the report by a special team of US investigators, who have just returned from BiH. In case Gilman’s proposition is approved, the US would send special teams of investigators and judges to help fight organized crime and corruption in BiH, because BiH authorities are incapable of dealing with the problem due to an inefficient judiciary.

New York Times article on corruption was misleading, but should be used as spark to fight corruption
“The New York Times article on corruption in BiH presented the wrong picture of the problem of corruption in BiH, but should be used as a spark to fight cases of abuse” World Bank Director in BiH Christian Portman stated at a meeting with BiH Presidency Member Alija Izetbegovic in Sarajevo on Thursday. Izetbegovic emphasized the need to fight crime and corruption in BiH, but also pointed to the problem of so-called ethnic privatization in some parts of BiH. Head of the World Bank Mission to BiH Rory O’Sullivan attended the meeting, which was one of his last in his current position.

Parliamentary Speaker obstructs work of BiH Federation House of Peoples – Bosniak parliamentary caucus
The Bosniak delegate caucus in the BiH Federation House of Peoples issued a press release right after the end of the fifth session of Parliament, complaining about the constant obstructions by Parliamentary Speaker Pero Madzar, who interrupted the fifth House session and scheduled the seventh for Friday against the will of the parliamentary majority. “Having in mind the unwillingness of the Speaker to accept the necessary and fully legitimate requests of Bosniak delegates, the Bosniak delegate caucus asks for the presence of OHR representatives at Friday’s session” the statement concludes.
