World

A strong hurricane struck the North of Europe. At least 16 people were killed. The storm caused a much material damage. Russian troops seized all roads leading to Grozny. The European Council warned Russia that the Council would temporarily expel it from membership if Russian troops continue their offensive in Chechenia. This was followed by a report on the finalising of the World Trade Association ministerial meeting without reaching a previously planned agreement on the agenda for the next round of negotiations about the liberalisation of the global economy. Croatia

Croatian Prime Minister, Zlatko Matesa, met today with the medical team staff which takes care for the Croatian President, Franjo Tudjman. The Prime Minister said that the health state of the President had not changed. A report on who will be candidates for the forthcoming elections followed. Sarajevo

During the last two days, the eighth session of the SDA party Main Board was held in Sarajevo. The session was attended by representatives of the SDA branches from Croatia, Macedonia, Sandzak, Montenegro and Serbia. The President of SDA Party and the member of the BiH Presidency, Alija Izetbegovic, said that the Dayton Peace Agreement was not good, but all other alternatives available at the time had been worse. However, the SDA representatives emphasised this did not mean they wanted to change the Dayton Peace Agreement. The report was produced by OBN reporter, Sevko Bajic.

This was followed by a piece on sanitary services in the Sarajevo Canton where the price of these services is ten times higher than it should be. The cause for this extreme profit was the monopoly which the Ministry of Health allowed giving a work licence only to one company. Other companies, despite signed contracts, were left without any job. The report was produced by OBN reporter, Amarildo Gutic.

A piece on the development of a project which should re-establish and strengthen the economic co-operation between some companies from both BiH entities. This will mark the end of one of the last PHARE programmes in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The project has been funded mainly by the European Community and it is worth 270,000 DEM. The next step will be much more complicated and uncertain because the implementation of the project will cost 200 million DEM. The report was produced by OBN reporter, Damir Kaletovic.

Brcko

A piece on the establishment of the joint system of health protection in the Brcko District. The recently established Information Center for Health Care will link medical departments of all three municipalities in the District. Teslic

A piece on the returnees to the Teslic town who are faced with problems regarding their return to the area. In 1998, ninety six houses were reconstructed for the returnees in the Teslic area. However, this year, only 60 houses, out of previously planned 500, have been reconstructed. Almost none of the decisions for the return to the area was implemented. Because of that, the returnees said they would block BiH roads if nothing is done. The report was produced by OBN reporter from the area, Muhamed Cabric.

Banja Luka

A report on a nine year old boy who lives in a wreck of a car in Banja Luka. The boy ran away from his home because of unstable an family situation and difficult economic situation. The report was produced by OBN reporter from Banja Luka, Zoran Popovic.

Sarajevo

This was followed by a report on the promotion of a book written by students of the Sarajevo University and published in French. The book “Une guerre en Europe” is a collection of students’ works about their war experiences, OBN reporter, Slobodan Maksimovic, confirmed.

A piece on the local football matches was followed by reports on the International Tournament of small arms held in Sarajevo, the Davis Cup matches, international skiing and NBA.
