Biljana Plavsics police escort prevented SFOR from entering her building today. Some media interpreted this as an attempt to arrest Mrs Plavsic. Biljana Plavsic said that SFOR representatives phoned her and apologised because of the misunderstanding.

Sarajevo

Only 6 weeks remains until the final deadline for registration of citizens for the general elections. It should be carried out properly, because there were many problems with registration in the last elections, Vedran Persic confirmed.

Fojnica

The B&H Presidency member, Ante Jelavic visited Fojnica today. The return process for Croats in this town is satisfactory, but the joint authorities haven’t functioned very well. “We expect the new authorities to deal with this issue, and issues of employment and further reconstruction. They should provide a better life for all citizens in this municipality”, Mr Jelavic said.

Mostar

The mediator for B&H, Christian Swartzshilling met the city and Canton authorities in Mostar. He talked to representatives of all three nations. “After these conversations, I have the impression that the progress in Mostar will soon become obvious”, Mr Swartzshilling said. He was not satisfied with the return process in Capljina. Reported by Ines Kajic.

At today’s meeting in the Federal Ministry of Finance, it was announced that in future the public would be regularly informed on the solvency or insolvency of companies in the Federation of B&H. The RS Union Association adopted a programme of their election activities. According to the programme, elections on the union level should take place on 15th of June 2001. The Union demanded immediate adoption of a law on work relations. They announced a strike on 29th of June, in case of non-fulfilment of their demands. The RS Prime Minister was invited to the meeting, but he didn’t come. Reported by Nedeljka Breberina.

Zenica

In the company “BH Steel” in Zenica, all employees will remain on the company payrolls. A number of them will be “temporarily unemployed”, and they will receive KM 50 per month. In this way, the need to fire some of the employees was avoided. However, other companies haven’t found a way to provide severance pay for fired employees yet. OBN reporter Amarildo Gutic produced the report.

A seminar on the role of privatisation investment funds in the RS privatisation process took place in Banja Luka today. Establishment of these funds is a part of the privatisation process, which will eventually create a market economy. “The market economy takes a long time to build, but the first steps in the right direction have been taken”, said Mr Mark St. Giles, the privatisation expert. The Association of Croat artists in the Federation of B&H held a press conference at the International Art Colony in Pocitelj.
