The car factory “Volkswagen” Union demanded replacement of the technical director, Husein Musabegovic. The financial police controlled the work of the factory. They found numerous irregularities, for which employees blame Mr. Musabegovic. OBN reporter Damir Kaletovic unsuccessfully tried to contact Mr. Musabegovic today, in order to hear his side of the story.

Vitez

Employees of “Energocentar” and “Vitez Cromen” blocked the road between Vitez and Travnik today. They demanded replacement of their company management’s. “Our only aim is to provide conditions for work”, said Dubravka Vujica, the President of the “Vitez Cromen” Union. Employees haven’t received their monthly salaries for five months. The road was de-blocked about 1 p.m. Reported by Vanja Elezovic.

Sarajevo

The B&H Human Rights Chamber reached several decisions, according to which B&H or its entities have to pay compensation to citizens, or give them back their properties. Representatives of the Chamber, the OHR and the Federal Ministry of Justice discussed relationships between the Federation authorities, Canton and Municipal authorities at today’s session. The Senior Deputy High Representative, Matei Hofmann, presented the project “Education for Peace” for pupils in primary and secondary schools. The project will be financed by the Luxembourg Government, Mirna Sadikovic confirmed.

The High Representative, Wolfgang Petritsch and the Head of the OSCE mission, Robert Barry presented a draft Law on freedom of information. “The Law will promote transparency and the right of public to know”, Mr. Petritsch said. The public will have access to all information, except military secrets, details from criminal investigations etc. Ambassador Barry hopes that the Law will be adopted before elections in November. Vedran Persic produced the report.

The NATO Supreme Commander for Europe, Joseph Ralston visited B&H, in order to get acquainted with current political situation. He met the High Representative, Wolfgang Petritsch and the Commander of Stabilisation forces, General Ron Adams.

The President of Slovakia, Rudolph Suster will continue his medical treatments in Austria.

After a meeting with the US Secretary General, Madeline Albright, the Israeli Prime Minister said that all problems of the Near East could be solved in a meeting between three parties. The Palestinian Leader, Yasser Arafat announced proclamation of independent state of Palestine in a few weeks.

FAO representatives confirmed that two of their workers were killed in Baghdad, and four were wounded. Iraq security forces arrested the assassin.

The President of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe said that he was ready to co-operate with the Parliament, but not with the opposition. Mladen Maric produced the piece on current events in the world.

The Canton Sarajevo made a list of dangerous waste and its storage location. There are no law regulations regarding this issue in B&H. This enables companies to refuse to give any information about production and storage of dangerous waste. There is no deadline for adoption of such a law, Slobodan Maksimovic confirmed.

Maglaj

The Maglaj Municipal Council decision on greetings provoked many reactions. All religious greetings were restricted only to religious institutions. “This was an unnecessary decision”, said Mr. Haris Silajdzic, the Leader of the Party for B&H. Reported by Sanjin Beciragic.

Opposition parties of the RS denied the information that they would form a coalition with opposition parties in the Federation. The report was produced by Nedeljka Breberina.

Mostar

The B&H Association for Refugees organised a press conference in Mostar. They announced that, since the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement, the smallest number of refugees returned to their homes in 2000. Reported by Denis Vila.
