Yugoslavia

After introduction of new planes into the NATO air campaign against Yugoslavia, number of targets increased over the last days despite bad weather conditions. At the regular press conference in Brussels, it was said that more than 30 targets on the territory of Federal Republic Yugoslavia were hit during last night. OBN’s reporter from Belgrade said that headquarters of Socialist Party of Serbia was hit.

Montenegro

The Montenegro President, Milo Djukanovic, denied a request of the Yugoslav Army to put Montenegro police force under the Army command. The Montenegro Police Minister asked the Yugoslav Army for an explanation on a killing of six inhabitants and Kosovo refugees in the Kaludjerski Laz village near Rozaj. A border crossing between Croatia and Montenegro on Debeli Brijeg is opened although Yugoslav soldiers check passengers and monitor transfer of goods two kilometers from the border.

Kosovo – reactions

The British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, will talk in favor of the ground operation in Kosovo this week at the NATO summit in Washington. This was announced by London’s dailies. They also claim that the Prime Minister has already reached a preliminary agreement with key partners in NATO. The USA Defence Minister, Willam Cohen, said that the strategic resolution of the Alliance is an air campaign although it can be changed fast if a need for that occurs. The European partners could not agree on enforcing oil embargo to Yugoslavia.

Kosovo – refugees

The exodus of Kosovo refugees continues. The Macedonian President said that he advised the National Defense Council to announce state of emergency in the country, for a wave of refugees from Kosovo was threatening to destabilize Macedonia. The President will attend NATO summit in Washington, although he said that Macedonian request to become a member of NATO would not be answered positively at the present.

Bijeljina

Two days ago, the Federal Republic Yugoslavia closed a border crossing with BiH in Visegrad. Regular bus lines were cancelled and passengers were strictly controlled. The OBN’s reporter explains current situation at the border crossings with Yugoslavia.

Sarajevo

A session of the Representative House of BiH Federation Parliament continued today. The Federal Prosecutor, Suljo Babic, informed participants on last year activities of the prosecutor’s office. The discussion on the federal television reconstruction law began today.

New judges of the Human Rights Court, Mirjana Jaksic Hadzikaric, Edah Becirbegovic and Dominik Malbasic, took oath today in the presence of the top BiH federation officials.

The OHR believes that it is in the best interest of all to investigate all accusations on misuse of public sources as it was in a case of charges against the Sanski Most Mayor, Mehmed Alagic. The OHR is happy with the measures taken by the Municipality Prosecutor in Sanski Most, President of the Municipality Court and the Prosecutor of the Una-Sana Canton.

The President of the BiH HDZ, Ante Jelavic, denied accusations, made by the special USA envoy, Robert Gelbard, on being an extremist, hard-liner and having connections with crime at the extraordinary session of BiH HDZ today in Sarajevo.

Banja Luka

After the consultative meeting of parliament’s parties held in Banja Luka today, the RS National Assembly President, Petar Djokic, announced that the second extraordinary session of the RS Parliament, interrupted on March 24, would be continued on April 27 in Banja Luka.

Sarajevo

At yesterday’s meeting of the BiH Presidency and Council of Ministers with the High Representative in Sarajevo, it was concluded that all customs offices in BiH Federation and Republika Srpska should start immediately with customs fees charging. The decision will help to the BiH economy for Croatia will start paying fees for its goods.

World

Two young men with masks killed 25 students of a high school in the USA. The killers were found dead and police reported that they committed suicide.

The Turkish public prosecutor will ask for the death sentence for the Kurd Workers Party leader due to the alleged high treason.

Rebels and pro Indonesian police signed a cease-fire in East Timor.

Sarajevo

The BiH Syndicate Main Board repeated its requests to the BiH Federation Prime Minister, Edhem Bicakcic, about an emerging signing of collective agreements, development of social programs and a law on strikes.

Olovo

A piece on blockade of the road M 18, between Sarajevo and Tuzla. The road was blocked by the “Ola” factory employees from Tuzla who are 4 months on strike due to unpaid salaries.

Sarajevo, Doboj, Mostar, Tuzla – refugees from Yugoslavia

A piece on refugees from the Federal Republic Yugoslavia in Doboj, Tuzla and Mostar region. Up to the April 20th, 24,000 refugees submitted claims for the refugee status to the Ministry for Refugees in the Sarajevo Canton. The USA Ambassador in BiH, Richard Kauzlarich, announced a possibility of the International Community’s introduction of sanctions due to non-implementation of the Sarajevo Declaration and delay in the process of property return.
