Sarajevo

After their visit yesterday to Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Military Committee of NATO visited KFOR troops in Kosovska Mitrovica today and met with KFOR commanders. The delegation was headed by the Chairman of the Military Committee, Italian General, Guido Venturoni. The NATO Military Committee has been preparing for the meeting of the North Atlantic Council Ministers of Defence which will be held on December 2nd and 3rd in Brussels. Chechenia

Yesterday, the OSCE Summit in Istanbul ended. The main topic of the meeting was the current situation in Chechenia. A joint declaration on the current situation in this republic, was a compromise which satisfied Russia most of all. The real winner of the Istanbul meeting was the Russian President, Boris Yeltsin. The Summit has ended, the war in Chechenia continues. The report was produced by OBN journalist, Mladen Maric.

Macedonia

This was followed by a report oh the presidential elections in Macedonia. Macedonian President, Kiro Gligorov, stood down after his second mandate expired yesterday, However, the new President of Macedonia has not been officially proclaimed because the election procedure has not finished yet, OBN reporter from Skopje, Safet Bisevac, confirmed. According to the Macedonian Constitution, the Prime Minister should take over the authorities of the President. Yesterday, the Prime Minister said that he will only technically be the President in the following period.

World

This was followed by a report on the health of the Croatian President, Franjo Tudjman. The medical team confirmed that the President’s health had improved. This was followed by a report on last night’s protests in Athens because of the visit of US President, Bill Clinton, to Greece. Protesters clashed with the police. At least 15 individuals were hurt. The Greek Government blamed the Communist Party of Greece for the incident, who organised protests despite warnings. The Russian Army continued its military operations in Chechenia. Russian troops are two kilometres from the West suburb of Grozny. After the disastrous earthquake which struck North West Turkey seven days ago, when 700 individuals were killed, new earthquakes occurred. Thirteen individuals were killed.

Banja Luka

The Association of Judges and Prosecutors of the RS denied accusations regarding the misuse of their authorisations and corruption. The accusations have been presented at public meetings and judges assessed them as a pressure of executive and legislative power. According to the Association, the biggest problem judges were faced with was insufficient funding. The report was produced by OBN reporter from Banja Luka, Valentina Knezevic.

Visegrad

This was followed by a report on the judiciary system in Visegrad. The system functions in the similar way as in the rest of the RS and BiH Federation. Human rights of refugees and displaced persons, as well as return of their property, have been breached most frequently, OBN reporter, Damir Kaletovic, confirmed.

Zivinice

One of the preconditions for the BiH membership within the European Council is the establishment of the independent judiciary system in BiH. Together with police and prosecution, this is one of the main bricks in the process of fight against crime and corruption. Inhabitants of the Zivinice municipality lost their trust in the judiciary system because of misuse of courts’ authorities. The report on Izet Glavinic’s case, inhabitant of Zivinice, was produced by OBN reporter, Amarildo Gutic.

Sarajevo

A piece on the seminar organised by the Office of the High Representative in BiH and European Council. Participants of the seminar explained to BiH historians and ministers of education different experiences of the European Union countries regarding different interpretations of history. Fojnica

A piece on the beginning of a two day meeting on the topic “Special Pedagogy – a Challenge for the Education System of BiH Federation” in the Fojnica hotel “Reumal”. Organizer of the meeting is the Independent Syndicate of Elementary and Secondary Education. OBN reporter from the area, Branka Vrebac, confirmed.

Sarajevo

Ten years ago, the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on Rights of a Child. The Forum of the Democratic Alternative of BiH and the regional office of the German organisation “Heinrich Boll Stiftung” organised a round table meeting today in Sarajevo. Topic of the meeting was “Sexual Abuse of Children”. The report was produced by OBN reporter, Mirna Sadikovic.

Banja Luka

A seminar within the Multi Country PHARE Project has been held today in Banja Luka for the first time. The issue addressed at the meeting was university education in BiH, OBN reporter from Banja Luka, Nedeljka Breberina, confirmed.

Sarajevo A piece on the opening of the exhibition “Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Classical Period” in the Sarajevo Museum today. OBN reporter, Slobodan Maksimovic, produced the report.

The International Club of Women organised for the third time “Holiday Spirit Bazaar”. Funds raised from selling of bazaar items will be used for different humanitarian projects. The report was produced by OBN reporter, Zeljka Lekic.
