As reported by Radio Brcko, Mayor Reljic spoke to a group of displaced persons assembled in Klanac, on the 31 July, 1998, and insisted that they stay in Brcko. This is a denial of the right of every person to choose where they want to live, enshrined in Article 1, Para.4 of Annex 7 of the Dayton Peace Accords which states that “the choice of destination shall be up to the individual” and the Parties shall not interfere with that choice.
This attempt to openly influence that free choice is absolutely unacceptable from a public official.
With regard to house marking and other return related issues the OHR would like to make clear that the Supervisor for Brcko is responsible for governing the phased, orderly and peaceful return of former residents to their homes of origin in Brcko and will take the measures necessary to facilitate this.
