The High Representative, Paddy Ashdown, today welcomed reports that Court of BiH has passed its first sentence for crimes involving people smuggling on Tuesday. The offence involved bringing Turkish citizens illegally into BiH. Reports indicate that the final destination in these cases were countries in the European Union.

The Ambassadors of the Peace Implementation Council Steering Board will meet this afternoon.
They will be discussing the recent political party criticisms of the judicial reappointment process and the effect that this may have on BiH’s future and plans for closer EU integration. They will also discuss priorities for 2004.

The Federation Governments faces one of its most important economic decisions today. This morning they are considering how to resolve the dispute over the Aluminj plant. How this issue is resolved will have enormous implications for the future of the BiH economy.
