The Office of the High Representative and the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina are aware of reports claiming that the vote of confidence taken by the SNS on Mrs. Plavsic’s leadership was inconsistent with the party statutes.
The OHR and OSCE believe this is an issue for the courts to decide.
However, with the deadline for party registration less than a month away, it is essential that the courts act promptly on Mrs. Plavsic’s complaint.
In the event that a prompt decision is not made, the Provisional Election Commission will ask the Election Appeals Sub-Commission to determine which party is entitled to be certified as the party who holds a mandate, and which party is a new party, therefore requiring new certification.
Given the short timeframe for these elections and the unknown outcome of the legal case, the parties to this dispute should start collecting signatures in order to certify as a new party.
