  • Javier Solana ordered suspension of air-strikes
  • UN Security Council adopted the Resolution on deployment of Peacekeeping troops in Kosovo. CNN reports that Albanian refugees will be returning to Kosovo soon after the NATO troops deployment;
  • UN Security Council Resolution was adopted with 14 votes for. Only China abstained from voting.China says that NATO breached the UN Charter.-CNN reported;
  • Deployment of NATO troops under UN auspices will start tomorrow, said Gen.Major Vladimir Lazarevic, commander of Pristina Corps.

  • US marines and other American units are preparing to enter Kosovo;
  • Strobe Talbott- Chernomyrdin talks: Talbott reiterated that KFOR troops should be under joint command. Russians want their own command.BETA
  • Javier Solana suspended air strikes on FRY, after the FRY Army withdrawal started. (Followed by SKY footage,) Solana stressed the importance of disarmament of KLA and NATO‘s intention to resume the air-strikes against FRY unless FRY comply with the Peace Plan
  • REUTERS announced the entire Military-technical Agreement. SRT carries the most important points of this document.
  • Slobodan Milosevic’s public announcement regarding the suspension of bombing.

POLITICAL PARTIES’ REACTIONS

  • SPS Spokesman I.Dacic:”Peaceful policy of Slobodan Milosevic won the war option of those who attacked our country. International troops which will be deployed in Kosovo are troops under UN auspices, not NATO troops as was originally offered to us.”
  • SRS: Radical party will walk out of the Governement when the first NATO soldier enters Kosovo”
  • SPO: Draskovic commended the Peace plan, but stressed the importance of the democratisation of Serbia
  • DSS: V.Kostunica assessed the Plan as a loss of integrity and sovereignty of FRY.
  • DS: Djindjic commended the Peace plan, but also said that the beginning of peace did not mean the end of war because peace means jobs, salaries, pensions…Djindjic also stressed the most important goal from now on should be Milosevic’s removal from power.

RS REACTIONS ON PEACE PLAN

  • Radisic: I am very satisfied with this plan although I don’t know the details. It is very important for all FRY citizens to live in peace and to enable FRY to get closer to Europe. This plan means stability for all former Yugoslav countries and it will be the opportunity for UN to restitute its role
  • Petar Djokic: This is big step forward towards peace in the entire region. Diplomacy is the only way of solving situations and crises like this one. I am sure there must have been a way to solve this crisis before.
  • Poplasen: This plan means capitulation of Serbia and Yugoslavia under very humiliating conditions.Kosovo is lost. We have to ask ourselves why the Serbian people was not able to bear the pressures?
  • Sarovic: In the name of humanity a humanitarian catastrophy was made. It is a matter of the survival of Serbian people. Considering that fact, Serbia needs this plan.
  • Manojlo Milovanovic (RS Defence Minister): I am very suspicious of Albanian / KLA compliance to the peace plan. KLA should be disarmed
  • Svetozar Mihajlovic (CoM Chair): I am commending this plan but this plan should have been signed much earlier
  • G-8 meeting ended without decision being made on the commanding structure.
  • American Congress commended the peace plan and assessed that Milosevic’s removal from power was the only condition for permanent peace. SRNA
  • Former political representative of KLA said in interview for “La Stampa” that Serbs and Albanians have to live together. Both Serbs and Albanians will be able to live in Kosovo only if they try to find a compromise.
  • Sadako Ogata: It is possible for 400,000 refugees to return in Kosovo by September. Refugees from camps will be the priorities. -Figaro
  • BiH Presidency Session: Pact on stability for Southeastern Europe was supported.Presidency members talked to Robert Gelbard. Richard Kauzlarich also attended the meeting. Next session will be held on 15 June when Ante Jelavic will take over the post of BiH Presidency Chairman.
  • BiH CoM members at today’s session in Sarajevo accepted the MMF memorandum on economic and financial policy for this year.
  • Int.press conference in Sarajevo:
  • OSCE: Members of 13 LEC from Federation and RS visited Germany and Austria to follow the election procedure of municipal elections and elections for the European Parliament
  • Ante Jelavic-Jacques Klein meeting: Jelavic requested complete personnel rearrangement of TV BiH. Only post of news editor has been offered to Croatian side. He reiterated the demand for dismissal of Ante Domazet and Mirsad Purivatra. Klein demanded Croatian cooperation in order to enable the adoption of the law on television, but the Croatian side threatened to block this law unless Radio and TV programmes were divided into Croatian and Muslim.- SRNA

  • Dinko Sakic trial in Zagreb will be resumed on 16 June
