News Summary

Radisic says he could not veto border agreement

BiH Presidency Member Zivko Radisic stated that he could not veto the signing of the border agreement because the BiH Presidency had not considered the RS suggested amendment. On 2 August, Radisic addressed a letter to BiH Presidency Chairman Ante Jelavic, explaining that the signed border agreement did not pass through the anticipated procedure. Radisic also asked for non-implementation of the agreement until a final decision is reached by the BiH Presidency. “The job is not complete until the BiH Presidency ratifies the agreement, which will probably happen at the end of the year” Radisic explained.

Silajdzic comments on border agreement

Commenting on the signing of the border agreement, President of the Stability Pact Summit Organization Board Haris Silajdzic explained that “it is a done deal.” He added that “we have been working on that for a long time, we have the signatures of experts on the maps and everything is finished, agreed to and signed. I do not see any reasons for raising tensions and comments on this issue.”

OHR decision to postpone police inauguration in Maglaj Municipality still valid

TV BiH journalist: Boundless political games related to the new municipal borders in the Zepce-Zavidovici-Maglaj triangle continue. With silent sanctions, which were, by the remarks for donors to avoid this area, imposed by the OHR because the Bosniak negotiating team refuses to sign an agreement on Zepce, the establishment of multiethnic police in Maglaj is further postponed. The present situation in Maglaj brought the dissatisfaction of its citizens, because joint police as a security factor are of great importance to the refugee return process. OHR spokesperson Alexandra Stiglmayer explained that “the process of police inauguration in Maglaj was stopped because the Bosniak side refused to sign the agreement offered for Zepce, which was signed by the HDZ BiH and NHI.”

Haselock meets with RTV BiH Union representatives

Following many comments after the OHR decision on restructuring the public broadcast system, Deputy High Representative for the Media Simon Haselock explained to RTV BiH Union representatives that their future is much safer now than it was at the end of the war. According to the OHR decision, a law establishing the public broadcast service has been made, making the service a direct descendant of RTV BiH on the state level. “This law enables the new public broadcast service to apply for a licence with the IMC and to have a frequency net that will cover the entire state” Haselock explained. Answering the question of when this decision will be implemented, Haselock stated that it is up to the professionals, adding that the OHR built in a mechanism for the realization of the decision. According to the decision, the RS must align SRT laws to agree with BiH and international standards.
