News Summary

Five injured when Serb refugees and Brcko District police clash in Brcko

Five persons were injured when 50 Serb women refugees from Sarajevo and 40 Brcko District police officers clashed in Brcko on 17 April. Council of Klanica Local Community President Spira Subotic and Gospava Cvijanovic suffered the most severe injuries. The reason for the conflict was violation of an agreement on mutual return to this area for Serbs and Bosniaks. Brcko District Police Commander Pero Djuric says Gospava Cvijanovic hurt herself. She says this not correct. “Police officers stood in front of me” she said. “A Muslim tried to throw a brick and I warned a police officer that he was inciting trouble and might hurt someone. The police officer threw me and I hit my head on the concrete.” The physician that examined Gospava Cvijanovic did not want to comment the nature of the injury.
