Dodik on future of BiH and revision of Dayton Agreement

RS Prime Minister Milorad Dodik in an interview to ONASA said, “we must build BiH’s future. BiH does not have a future with its present wartime leaders.” Dodik stated that he could not discuss the future with people of the past. Dodik added that he could not discuss the future with people like BiH Council of Ministers Co-chairman Haris Silajdzic, due to his open and consistent obstruction of the work of BiH common institutions. There are a few factors in the BiH Federation who want to make revisions to the Dayton Peace Agreement, said Dodik. “The first contingent is composed of persons that in 1991 and 1992, on the wings of Bosniak nationalism, wanted to withdraw BiH from the former Yugoslavia. They now have leading positions as representatives of the Bosniak nation. The views of these people are dangerous for the future of BiH. Requests for revision of the Dayton Agreement are coming from certain politicians that assisted in the breakup of the former Yugoslavia. These persons want to present their opinions as normal civic views. The representatives of the third option are persons who had leading posts before the arrival of the nationalist parties. Also, one part of the IC wants to make revisions to the Dayton Peace Agreement. That is visible in the opinions of the International Crisis Group” Dodik told ONASA. According to Dodik, the participation of BiH in UN peace missions is acceptable for the RS. “Many people think that it is a step forward to form a joint BiH Army.” Dodik said he is against a joint BiH Army because it is not possible. The BiH Federation Army proves this very fact, said Dodik. “The only realistic discussion is discussion on the reduction of military potentials, and then demilitarization” he said. Both entity governments must work together on the implementation of property laws. The OHR made a mistake when it tied together property laws and housing rights. Commenting on the dismissal of 22 officials in both BiH entities, Dodik stated that High Representative Wolfgang Petritsch was authorized and competent to make such a decision. Talks on construction of the Banja Luka mosque Ferhadija will be more realistic after parliamentary elections, he said. The return of refugees is a higher priority than the mosque’s construction. Commenting on the CD Coalition’s entry into the RS Government, Dodik stated that restructuring the present RS Government, which he heads, was not realistic.
