OHR BiH TV News Summary, 8 July 1998

CoM held a session in Lukavica. The session will be continued tomorrow, and there was no press statements given. The CoM was supposed to discuss the Law on CoM implementation, and the Law on Execution of the Budget, as well as Permanent Law on Customs Policy, and the Law on Refugees.

BiH Federation Parliament HoR held a session, and adopted the Law on Pension and Invalids Insurance.

The Contact Group appealed to all to cease the violence in Kosovo, and appealed to cease donations for weaponry for Albanians outside of Yugoslavia borders. German FA Minister Kinkel said that he believes the IC has exhausted all means and sanctions towards FRY so preparations for possible military action should be continued. Close combats continued in Kosovo municipality Djakovica today, as well as Decani municipality, and casualties were reported from both sides.

OSCE Parliament Assembly session continued today in Copenhagen. BiH delegation is represented by FA Minister Prlic and Adnan Jahic. The main subject of the session was preventing of crisis situations in the Balkans and Eurasia areas. Prlic also reported that preparations for the September elections were estimated appropriate and well done.

US Special Envoy Gelbard made a statement after his separate meetings with Jelavic and Orucevic in Mostar. Gelbard stressed that US will not leave these areas before job is done, and successfully too. Mentioning the tragic events in Mostar after Saturday’s football game, Gelbard insisted on changing the situation in Mostar where, as he said, is a bad environment.

Croatian football representation plays again this evening. Before the game, Mostar Mayor Orucevic appealed to all citizens and relevant authorities to take the precaution measures in order to prevent any possible incidents.

International Organisations held a presser in Mostar. OHR regional head, Sir Martin Garrod condemned the incidents occurred after the football game Germany-Croatia, when one person was killed and the other seriously wounded, and returnees’ houses in Stolac damaged.

Mostar Centre for Human Rights improvement made an announcement and addressed sincere condolences to the family of the late Emina Catic and severely condemned vandalism and its bearers, and demanded from the state authorities to find and punish felons of this crime.

Kiseljak Municipality Council President made an announcement in regards with events that occurred in the place of Bilalovac after the football game Croatia-Germany. About 50 cars went through Bilalovac with fans who were spitting and cursing Bosniak pedestrians. They were also firing from long-barreled and automatic weapons.

Federation President Ganic met with Sarajevo Canton Governor Haracic, discussing the matters of the Sarajevo Declaration implementation, refugee return and infrastructure reconstruction. Haracic expressed his displeasure with slow incomes of revenues for apartments reconstruction in Sarajevo.
