News Summary
Petritsch critical of BiH Presidency nomination of Spasoje Tusevljak for Chairman of BiH Council of Ministers
High Representative Wolfgang Petritsch met with the members of the BiH Presidency in Sarajevo on Wednesday and expressed his discontent over the procedure of electing Spasoje Tusevljak as new BiH Council of Ministers Chairman. Petritsch criticized the BiH Presidency for taking more than 5 months to nominate a candidate for BiH Council of Ministers and, even after that period, they nominated the absolutely anonymous Tusevljak. The High Representative described the election procedure as unprofessional, adding that he would hold the BiH Presidency and BiH Parliament responsible for any eventual consequences. Petritsch will ask Tusevljak to present his work program for the BiH Council of Ministers. Petritsch concluded by saying that he would sanction obstructionism by Tusevljak. (02:32)
Silajdzic has no intention of running for BiH Presidency
Former Co-chairman of the BiH Council of Ministers Haris Silajdzic rejected all speculation of him being Alija Izetbegovic’s possible successor in the BiH Presidency after Izetbegovic steps down in October. In a press release issued in Sarajevo on Wednesday, Silajdzic explained that the election of Izetbegovic’s successor in the BiH Parliament, instead of at elections, would be unconstitutional. “This would be one more in a series of deviations from the Dayton Peace Agreement that is leading toward the legalization of the results of the war and aggression [on BiH]” Silajdzic asserted. “There are still certain extremist nationalists and even terrorist political parties that are ‘buying legality’ under the patronage of the OSCE. I have no intention of participating in such elections in the future and, by doing so, giving legality to certain political forces adhering to fascist (Chetnick) ideology” Silajdzic said the press release.
